The R&D department is the driving force of SILA®. It is not just about developing new products, but about understanding where the market is heading before it gets there, and being ready with solutions that work. The team works on two parallel fronts: creating innovative formulations, including to meet specific customer needs, and continuously refining existing products, because improving what already works is often the hardest and most valuable challenge.

The in-house chemical laboratory guides every decision, checking the quality of every stage of the process, from raw materials to finished product, with analytical rigour and state-of-the-art technologies. In vitro and in vivo tests complete a scientific approach that leaves no room for approximation.

Research covers both of the company’s divisions: in animal nutrition, the aim is to improve farm production performance without ever losing sight of animal welfare and sustainability; in human nutrition, the focus is on the bioavailability and effectiveness of actives, responding to increasingly aware and selective consumers.

Developing a new product requires cross-disciplinary expertise, state-of-the-art technologies and a single partner able to support the customer every step of the way. SILA® offers a complete contract development service: from the initial idea to industrial production and patent protection of the innovation.

Concept
Everything starts from a concrete need. The SILA® team works alongside the customer from the earliest conceptual stages, analysing the characteristics of the active ingredient, the required technical specifications and the nutritional or functional goals of the final product. An open, technical discussion to turn an idea into a defined project.

Research and Development
SILA®’s R&D laboratory is the heart of the process. This is where formulations are studied, the most suitable microencapsulation technologies are selected and analytical tests are carried out to validate the product’s effectiveness and stability.

Pilot Production
Before moving to industrial scale, the formulation is produced and tested on a pilot scale. This stage makes it possible to verify the reproducibility of the process, optimise production parameters and identify any critical issues in order to achieve the best solutions.

Industrialisation
Once the formulation has been validated, the process is transferred to the production plants at full capacity, with quality checked at every stage - from raw materials to the packaged finished product. Scale-up takes place gradually and under control, ensuring continuity between the pilot stage and large-scale production.

Intellectual Property
Innovation developed together with the customer can be protected. SILA® provides support in identifying patent opportunities, drawing on a portfolio of more than 50 granted patents as a reference and a guarantee of a well-established approach to protected innovation.
